Man Charged With Murder And Attempted Murder In Shooting

24-Year-Old Trenton Man Charged With Murder & Attempted Murder In June 23rd Trenton Shooting

TRENTON, NJ.- Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri reported, on Wednesday, that a 24-year-old Trenton, New Jersey man was taken into custody and charged in connection with a June 23, 2024, early morning shooting in Trenton that claimed the life of a 30-year-old Trenton man and injured three others, one seriously.


     Divon Ray, 24, of Trenton, New Jersey, was formally charged with one count of first-degree Murder; eight counts of first-degree Attempted Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.



     Ray was apprehended on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, in Trenton, New Jersey by Detectives of the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Shooting Response Team. Ray was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Mercer County Correctional Center pending future court proceedings in Mercer County Superior Court in Trenton, New Jersey.


     The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office has filed a pretrial detention motion to have Ray detained pending the resolution of the charges filed against him.


     The charges stem from an investigation that unfolded on Sunday, June 23, 2024, when at around 1:30 a.m., members of the Trenton Police Department responded to the 100 Block of Walnut Avenue in the City of Trenton after receiving a ShotSpotter Activation for multiple gunshots.


     Upon arrival, Police Officers found four victims suffering from gunshot wounds. All four were immediately transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment of their wounds. On Thursday, June 27, 2024, Samier Vincent, 30, of Trenton, New Jersey succumbed to a gunshot wound to his head and neck and was pronounced deceased.


     An adult man and an adult woman, who both sustained a single gunshot wound were treated and subsequently released. A 29-year-old woman remains hospitalized in serious condition.


     A swift-moving investigation by Detectives of the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department's Shooting Response Team were able to identify Ray as the suspect and the individual responsible for the death of Mr. Vincent and injuring the other three people.


     The investigation remains active and ongoing.
