Woman Charged With Child Endangerment And Theft Offenses

28-Year-Old Jersey City Woman Charged With Abducting Her Child Without Permission

BOGOTA, NJ.- On Thursday, a 28-year-old Jersey City, New Jersey woman was taken into custody and charged for an incident that unfolded on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, when she abducted her child without permission and was in possession and driving a stolen motor vehicle.


     According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Thursday, April 25, 2024, the Bogota Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Child Abduction Response Team regarding the alleged abduction of a juvenile.





     Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and the Bogota Police Department learned that on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, Jahlea Jones, 28, of Jersey City, New Jersey traveled to Bogota, New Jersey, and took her child, knowing that she was not allowed to, from a Bogota residence. Authorities were able to locate Jones with the child later in the day in Lodi, New Jersey. When Jones was located she was operating a motor vehicle that had been reported stolen.


     Accordingly, following the investigation, Jones was formally charged with second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; third-degree Receiving Stolen Property; fourth-degree Interfering with Custody; fourth-degree Contempt; and fourth-degree Theft by Unlawful Means of Conveyance.


     Following being processed on the charges, Jones was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.


"The rules of the court requires us to include a statement, that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt."
