43-YEAR-OLD SAYREVILLE MAN CHARGED WITH KILLING HIS 9-YEAR-OLD SON SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES

SAYREVILLE, NJ.- A 43-Year-Old Manuel Rivera, accused of Killing his 9-Year-Old Son and attempting to take his life following a Domestic Violence incident on March 28, 2024, in Sayreville, New Jersey, succumbs to Self-Inflicted Injuries and was pronounced deceased on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone.
As first reported, on March 28, 2024, at just around 10:45 p.m., Members of The Sayreville Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call Reporting a Fire in the area of Sayreville High School. While Police Officers were responding to the scene of the fire, The Sayreville Police Department received an additional 911 Emergency Call Reporting a Domestic Violence Incident at a Sayreville Residence.
Additional Police Officers were dispatched to an Eisenhower Drive residence in response to The Domestic Dispute. Upon arrival, Police Officers encountered a Woman who alerted Police Officers of a Domestic Dispute that led to Manuel Rivera, 43, of Sayreville, New Jersey leaving the home with their 9-Year-Old Son, Christian Rivera.
Police Officers and First Responders who responded to Washington Road, near The Sayreville High School on the report of the fire, found Rivera Alive but with Burns to his Body and a Self-Inflicted Wound. Next to Rivera Police Officers found a Motor Vehicle that had been doused with Gasoline and set on Fire. Rivera was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where he remained until yesterday when he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the Fire Suppression of the Motor Vehicle, Firefighters located the Deceased Body of Christian Rivera in the back of the vehicle.
Following a Swift Moving investigation by The Middlesex County Prosecutors Office and The Sayreville Police Department, Detectives quickly determined that Rivera following the Domestic Dispute left the Eisenhower Residence with his Son, Rivera Killed his Son and set The Car on Fire before Attempting to Take his on Life.
Following the investigation, Rivera was First Charged with Second Degree Aggravated Arson. A subsequent autopsy The Regional Medical Examiner's Office determined the Boy's Death to be Homicide. Rivera was subsequently Charged with First Degree Murder; Second Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; and Second Degree Desecration of Human Remains.
