Man Charged In Sunday Night Stabbing Death

UPDATE: 24-Year-Old Perth Amboy Man Charged For Stabbing An Acquaintance To Death Sunday Night In Perth Amboy

PERTH AMBOY, NJ.- A 24-year-old Perth Amboy, New Jersey man has been charged in connection with the Sunday night stabbing death of a 32-year-old Perth Amboy, New Jersey man.


     According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, on Sunday, April 28, 2024, just before 9:00 p.m., members of the Perth Amboy Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a stabbing in the area of Smith and Maple Streets in the City of Perth Amboy.



     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, identified as Jason Torres, 32, of Perth Amboy, unresponsive from multiple stab wounds. Mr. Torres was transported to Hackensack Merdian Health Raritan Bay Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.


     A swift-moving investigation led by Detective Jose Santiago of the Perth Amboy Police Department and Detective Michelle Coppola of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office determined that the stabbing was not a random act of violence and were able to identify Luis Alberto Serrano Diaz, 24, of Perth Amboy as the individual responsible for the stabbing death of Mr. Torres, and the two knew each other.


     Following the investigation, Serrano Diaz was taken into custody on Monday, April 29, 2024, and formally charged with first-degree Murder; third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.


     Serrano Diaz was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending future court proceedings in Middlesex County Superior Court.


"The rules of the court requires us to include a statement, that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt."
