21-YEAR-OLD PEMBERTON MAN SENTENCED TO STATE PRISON FOR DOUBLE SHOOTING THAT KILLED ONE

MOUNT HOLLY, NJ.- Yesterday, a Burlington County Superior Court Judge Sentenced a 21-Year-Old Pemberton Township, New Jersey man to 28 Years in New Jersey State Prison for The October 2021, Fatal Shooting of a 17-Year-Old Boy and Critically Injuring a 17-Year-Old Girl.
According to Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw, The Sentence was The Direct result of a Plea Agreement between The Prosecutor's Office and Kia Johnson, 21, of Pemberton, New Jersey. Johnson in October 2023 Pled Guilty to One Count of First Degree Aggravated Manslaughter; and First Degree Attempted Murder.
The Sentence stems from an investigation that began on October 18, 2021, at approximately 11:30 p.m., when Members of The Pemberton Township Police Department responded to a Shooting on The 100 Block of Snow Avenue in The Browns Mills Section of The Township.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found Malachi Treherne, 17, of Pemberton, Unresponsive lying in The Doorway of the Residence from Gunshot Wounds to his Head. Mr. Treherne was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Teen Girl was immediately transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, New Jersey, and has since recovered from her injury.
A Swift-Moving Investigation by Members of The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office and The Pemberton Township Police Department were Quickly able to Identify Johnson as The Shooter. Further investigation revealed that Johnson and Treherne were involved in a Verbal Altercation when Johnson Pulled Out a Firearm and Shot Mr. Treherne Twice in the Head. Then Johnson Chased Down The Girl and Shot her Once in The Chest as she was Hiding Behind a Door.
Following a Manhunt Johnson Surrendered to Burlington County Authorities Three Days after the Shooting.
