Charges Upgraded To Attempted Murder Against Willingboro Man

WILLINGBORO, NJ.- According to Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw, Charges against a 35-Year-Old Willingboro, New Jersey man have been Upgraded following his arrest late last week for Striking a Willingboro Woman in The Head With a Baseball Bat and then Fleeing and leaving Five Young Children unattended inside their Willingboro Residence.



     Quamel Benton, 35, of Willingboro, New Jersey has been Additionally Charged with First Degree Attempted Murder; Third Degree Endangering an Injured Victim; and Five Counts of Fourth Degree Neglecting a Child.


     Benton was initially Charged after being Apprehended in the early morning hours of March 22, 2024, with Second Degree Aggravated Assault; and Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Yesterday during a brief Detention Hearing, a Burlington County Superior Court Judge Ordered Benton Detained in The Burlington County Jail pending Trial. 


     The investigation began on Thursday, March 21, 2024, when Members of The Willingboro Township Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call Reporting a Disturbance at a Home located on The First Block of Raeburn Lane in The Township.


     Upon arrival, Police Officers found an Unconscious Woman who had sustained a Severe Head Injury. The Woman was immediately Airlifted to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey, where she remains in Critical but Stable Condition.


     The initial investigation uncovered that Benton Struck the Woman in The Head with a Baseball Bat, and then Fled the Scene in her car, leaving Five Children Unattended in The Home They Shared in The Rittenhouse Park Section of Willingboro Township.


     Following the issuance of an alert by Burlington County Authorities, Benton was Apprehended around 1:00 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024, by Toms River Police Officers after a Brief Foot Pursuit following Benton crashed the vehicle he was driving into a utility pole.


     Benton has been Charged by Ocean County Authorities with Eluding and Resisting Arrest and was also Charged with Attempting to Pull a Teenage Girl inside his vehicle and then approaching a Woman in the Parking Lot of a Target Store and Inappropriately Touching Her.


     The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office will now Prepare the Case to be brought before a Burlington County Grand Jury.
