ATLANTIC CITY, NJ.- Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds reported, on Thursday, March 28, 2024, that Detectives of The Atlantic County Special Victims Unit Formally Charged The Principal of The Atlantic City High School in connection with a January 22, 2024, Incident involving a Student being Abused at Home.

Constance Days-Chapman was Formally Charged Yesterday, with One County of Second Degree Official Misconduct; Third Degree Hindering the Apprehension of Another; Fourth Degree Obstruction of Justice; and a Disorderly Persons Offense of Failure to Report Child Abuse.

Ms. Days-Chapman was Processed on The Charges and Released on a Complaint Summons pending Future Court Proceedings in Atlantic County Superior Court.

The Charges stem from an investigation when on January 22, 2024, a Juvenile Student at The High School informed a School Staff Member that The Student had been Emotionally and Physically Abused by the Student's Parents and had previously disclosed the Abuse to Days-Chapmann.

The School Staff Member discussed the matter with Days-Chapman later that day. Days-Chapman Denied that the Student ever Disclosed the Abuse to her previously but told the School Staffer that she would Report the Matter to The New Jersey State Division of Child Protection and Permanency. Both the Staffer and another Eyewitness to The Conversation believed that Days-Chapman was going to notify Authorities as they were leaving the office. The other Eyewitness even offered to notify Authorities, but Days-Chapman insisted that she would make the notification.

According to The Prosecutor's Office, Later that Evening, Days-Chapman met with The Student's Parents at the Parent's House and informed them that the Juvenile Disclosed to School Staff that the Juvenile was being Abused by Them.

During the investigation, Detectives learned from The Department of Child Protection and Permanency that there had been no notification by Days-Chapman or any other School Staff Member about the Allegations of The Abuse.

"The Rules Of The Court Requires Us To Include A Statement, That States: The Charges Outlined In This Publication Are Merely Accusations And The Defendant And Or Defendants Are Presumed Innocent Unless And Until Proven Guilty Beyond Reasonable Doubt."
