Franklin Lakes, New Jersey Attorney Charged With Stealing Clients Money

73-YEAR-OLD FRANKLIN LAKES ATTORNEY CHARGED WITH CREATING A THEFT SCHEME

     "Martin S. Fishman Was Charged On Tuesday With Theft By Unlawful Taking, Misapplication Of Entrusted Property, & Impersonation."

FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ.- A 73-Year-Old Franklin Lakes man who has had his Law Licenses Suspended and Revoked, in both New Jersey and New York, was Taken into Custody on Tuesday and Charged in connection with a Multi-Year Financial Fraud Scheme that Bilked Clients of over $600,000.


     According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, starting in May of 2023, Four Victims came forward and Reported to The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Financial Crimes Unit that, as early as 2014, they had been involved with Real Estate Transactions with Martin S. Fishman, 73, of Franklin Lakes, who had not Repaid Loans, Fraudulently Drafted Mortgage Notes, Dispersed Bounced Checks for Real Estate Closings, Misapplied Funds intended for an Attorney Trust Account, and then Ceased Communications with them while they attempted to recoup their Money. The Stolen Funds Totaled more than $600,000.


     Following an investigation, on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, Detectives of The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Arrested Mr. Fishman and Formally Charged him with Second Degree Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition; Second Degree Theft by Deception; Second Degree Theft by Failure to Make Required Disposition of Property Received; Second Degree Misapplication of Entrusted Property; Second Degree Impersonation; and Third Degree Forgery.


     Mr. Fishman was Processed on The Charges and was Remanded to The Bergen County Jail pending Future Court Proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
