46-YEAR-OLD POMPTON PLAINS WOMAN CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT AGAINST A STUDENT

GARFIELD, NJ.- Following an investigation, a 46-Year-Old Pompton Plains, New Jersey woman, who was Employed as a School Teacher at The Garfield Middle School was Taken into Custody on Friday and Charged with Multiple Sex Crimes with a Student.
According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Saturday, February 10, 2024, The Garfield Police Department contacted The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit after receiving a report of a Teacher Engaging in Sexual Conduct with a Garfield Middle School Student.
An investigation was initiated. During the investigation Detectives interviewed Witnesses including the Student. Following the investigation, Detectives determined that Amy Dovidio, 46, of Pompton Plains, New Jersey, while previously Employed by The Garfield School District as a Teacher had Engaged in Sexual Conduct with a Student who was between the Ages of Thirteen and Seventeen.
The Sexual Conduct occurred within The Garfield Middle School, a Private Residence in Cedar Grove, New Jersey, and in a Motor Vehicle at Various Unknown Locations in Bergen, Essex, and Passaic Counties.
On Friday, February 16, 2024, Ms. Dovidio was Taken into Custody at The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office in Paramus, New Jersey, and Formally Charged with First Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault; Second Degree Sexual Assault; Second Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; Third Degree Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact; and Fourth Degree Criminal Sexual Contact.
Dovidio was Processed on The Charges and was Remanded to The Bergen County Jail pending Future Court Proceedings in Bergen County Court in Hackensack, New Jersey. If Convicted of The Charges Ms. Dovidio will Face spending Decades in New Jersey State Prison.
