BREAKING NEWS: Newark, New Jersey Man Sentenced To State Prison

31-YEAR-OLD NEWARK MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR THE JULY 2021 SLAYING OF A HILLSIDE MAN

     "Darius Easterling Was Sentenced To State Prison For The July 22, 2021 Late Night Fatal Shooting Of Steven Zimmerman In Hillside, New Jersey."

HILLSIDE, NJ.- Yesterday, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel reported, on Friday, January 26, 2024, a Union County Superior Court Judge Sentenced a 31-Year-Old Newark, New Jersey man to a Term of Eight Years in New Jersey State Prison for The July 22, 2021, Late Night Shooting Death of Steven Zimmerman, 31, of Hillside, New Jersey.



     On Friday, Superior Court Judge Regina Caulfield Sentenced Darius Easterling, 31, of Newark, to Eight Years in New Jersey State Prison on The Charge of Second Degree Manslaughter. The Sentence will be Subject to The No Early Release Act which Requires Mr. Easterling to Serve Eighty-Five Percent of his Custodial Term before becoming Eligible for Parole.


     The Sentence stems from an incident, when on July 22, 2021, shortly before 10:00 p.m., Members of The Hillside Police Department were Dispatched to The 1400 Block of North Broad Street in Hillside after receiving a 911 Emergency Call Reporting a Shooting. Upon arrival, Police Officers found Steven Zimmerman Dead from a Fatal Gunshot Wound, according to The Prosecutor's Office.


     "We are grateful for the hard work of Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Desimone and Homicide Task Force Detective Nora Berrio on this case," said Union County Prosecutor Daniel. "I hope this sentence can bring some relief to those mourning Mr. Zimmerman."
