FAIRFIELD, TOWNSHIP, NJ.- Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae reported, that on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, a Grand Jury sitting in Cumberland County, New Jersey, Returned an Indictment against Arthur Armstead, 30, of Fairfield Township, New Jersey on The Charges of Two Counts of First Degree Murder; First Degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder; and Multiple other Offenses.
The Charges are in connection with Armstead's Role in The May 2021 Fairfield Township, New Jersey Mass Shooting that Killed Three and left Eleven others Injured. Charges in The Indictment Allege that Armstead is individually responsible for The Shooting Deaths of Kevin Elliott and Brailyn Holmes and injuring Three others in The Shooting.
According to Authorities, on May 22, 2021, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Members of The New Jersey State Police responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a Mass Shooting Incident at a Party attended by Hundreds of People at a residence located on East Commerce Street in Fairfield Township, New Jersey.
Upon arrival, State Troopers and Detectives found Multiple Fatalities and others suffering from Gunshot Wounds. Authorities determined that sometime around 11:30 p.m., Gunfire Erupted resulting in The Deaths of Three Individuals and leaving Eleven others suffering from Minor to Serious Gunshot Wounds.
Armstead was identified, and Previously Charged and Indicted on The Charges of Obstruction; Hindering Apprehension; and Conspiracy in connection with the investigation for his role in The Shooting.
As part of that Indictment, it was alleged that Mr. Armstead fled to The State of Delaware in the hours after The Shooting where he stayed for Several Days with a Girlfriend. Shortly thereafter, Armstead was transported to Atlantic City where he took refuge in a Casino Hotel until he surrendered to New Jersey State Troopers at The Bridgeton Barracks.
Since May of 2021, The Investigation has been ongoing. Information was recently received that directly implicated Armstead in The Shooting which resulted in the Additional Charges being Filed and the Return of Wednesday's Indictment. No Arraignment Date has been Scheduled at this time.
