BREAKING NEWS: Bloomfield, New Jersey Man Sentenced To State Prison

36-YEAR-OLD BLOOMFIELD MAN HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO 35 YEARS IN PRISON FOR KILLING A MAN IN 2022

     "Lamar Sommers Has Been Sentenced For His Role In The 2022 Fatal Shooting Of  Jahque Benbow While He Was Working At An Irvington Gas Station."

NEWARK, NJ.- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II reported, that during a brief Court Hearing in Essex County Superior Court, The Honorable Michael L. Ravin, J.S.C. Sentenced Lamar Sommers, 36, of Bloomfield, New Jersey to 35 Years in New Jersey State Prison for his role in The Shooting Death of Jahque Benbow, 23, of Irvington, New Jersey, while Mr. Benbow was at work at an Irvington Gas Station.



     Mr. Sommers was Found Guilty on October 10, 2023, on The Charges of First Degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder; First Degree Murder; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.


     The Conviction and Sentences stem from an incident when on May 11, 2022, Mr. Sommers along with Two Unidentified Men, conspired to Shoot Mr. Benbow at The Irvington Gas Station where he worked. Sommers drove the Two Men to Irvington, where he dropped them off a block from The Gas Station. The Two Men Shot Mr. Benbow Five Times while Sommers waited in the car. Sommers then drove the Shooters away from the scene. Sommers then Fled New Jersey and was Apprehended in North Carolina on June 16, 2022.


     Assistant Prosecutor F. Garnes, who tried the case with Assistant Prosecutor J. Ventola, said, "Mr. Benbow was hunted, then executed in a public place where innocent bystanders ran for their when shots rang out."


     Assistant Prosecutor Ventola said, "The fact that Mr. Benbow's baby, born hours after his death, will never know him, further compounds this tragedy."
