BREAKING NEWS: Atlantic City, New Jersey Man Pleads Guilty In Overdose Deaths

ATLANTIC CITY MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO SELLING FENTANYL TO TWO U.K. CITIZENS WHO FATALLY OVERDOSED

     "Tyrell Gist Pled Guilty On Monday To Causing The Deaths Of Scott Jordan & Simon Gamble Who Fatally Overdosed In A Bally's Hotel & Casino Hotel Room."

MAYS LANDING, NJ.- Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds reported, on Monday, February 5, 2024, that Tyrell Gist, 27, of Atlantic City, New Jersey Pleaded Guilty in Atlantic County Superior Court to Two Counts of First Degree Strict Liability for Causing a Drug-Induced Deaths of Two Tourists visiting Atlantic City from The United Kingdom back in 2020.





     In return for Mr. Gist's Guilty Plea, The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office will request that Mr. Gist be Sentenced to a Term of 13 Years in New Jersey State Prison. The Sentence will be Subject to The No Early Release Act which will Require Mr. Gist to Serve Eighty-Five Percent of his Custodial Term before becoming Eligible for Parole. Mr. Gist will also be Supervised for Five Years upon his release.


     The Guilty Plea stems from an incident, when on March 8, 2020, Bally's Hotel & Casino Employees found Two Unresposive Men, Scott Jordan, 42, and Simon Gamble, 39, inside their Hotel Room. Police Officers from The Atlantic City Police Department responded, and both Mr. Jordan and Mr. Gamble were pronounced deceased. Inside the room, Police Officers found 10 Ripped Wax Baggies and a Line of a White Powdery Substance on a Table.


     An investigation was initiated and The New Jersey State Police Lab concluded that the Wax Baggies Contained Heroin, Fentanyl, and 4-ANNP. The Regional Medical Examiner's Office determined that The Deaths were Caused by Acute Effects of Fentanyl and Ethanol.


     The investigation further determined that Mr. Jordan and Mr. Gamble, both Citizens of The United Kingdom who were Working in New York City, were spending the night in Atlantic City and planned to return to New York on March 8, 2020. Bally's Video Surveillance helped Detectives to identify Mr. Gist as the person who sold the Drugs to The Two Men.


     In Two unrelated matters, Mr. Gist also Pleaded Guilty to Two other Indictments.


     Mr. Gist Pled Guilty to Third Degree Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine, resulting from an Atlantic City Police Department Investigation on August 15, 2020, in which Gist was observed Multiple Times making Hand-To-Hand Drug Transactions on The 1700 Block of Martin Luther King Boulevard. Gist was Searched at the scene and was Found to be in Possession of 12 Grams of Cocaine and a Large Amount of Money consistent with Narcotics Sales. In Return for his Guilty Plea, Mr. Gist will be Sentenced to a Term of 5 Years in New Jersey State Prison which will be Served Concurrently with his other Sentence.


     Additionally, Mr. Gist Pled Guilty to Third Degree Distribution of Methamphetamine and Third Degree Eluding resulting from a Motor Vehicle Stop that occurred in Atlantic City, New Jersey on August 2, 2020. Atlantic City Police Officers observed a Hyundai Tucson Sport Utility Vehicle Speeding and Failing to Stop at a Stop Sign. Police Officers initiated a Traffic Stop at which time the Vehicle Fled. A short distance later the vehicle did come to a stop. The Driver, Mr. Gist was Arrested and during a subsequent search, Gist was Found to be in Possession of Methamphetamine and a Large Amount of Money consistent with Narcotics Sales. In return for his Guilty Plea, Gist will be Sentenced to a Term of 5 Years in New Jersey State Prison, which will be Served Concurrently with his other Sentence.
