MAYS LANDING, NJ.- An Atlantic County Corrections Sergeant might find himself behind bars in The Jail he formally worked at. Following an Official Misconduct Investigation, Fred Gilbert, 37, of Egg Harbor City, New Jersey, who was Employed as a Corrections Sergeant with The Atlantic County Justice Facility has been Charged with Official Misconduct and Related Offenses in connection with his involvement in an incident that occurred inside The Atlantic County Jail in June 2023.



     Mr. Gilbert has been Formally Charged with Second Degree Official Misconduct; Third Degree Witness Tampering; Fourth Degree Obstruction; Two Counts of Fourth Degree False Reporting to Law Enforcement Authorities; and Fourth Degree Tampering with Physical Evidence.


     According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, it has been alleged that on June 12, 2023, while on duty in his Official Capacity as a Corrections Sergeant, Mr. Gilbert Concealed or Destroyed Contraband after it was recovered from an Inmate who was being held in the Facility on unrelated Charges. Additionally, Gilbert instructed another Officer to Create a False Document indicating that the Contraband was not Recovered and Fabricated his own report indicating the same.


     The investigation was conducted by The Atlantic County Justice Facility in conjunction with The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Professional Standards and Accountability Unit.
