WILLINGBORO TOWNSHIP, NJ.- Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw reported, that a 32-Year-Old Willingboro, New Jersey man was Sentenced on Monday to 30 Years in New Jersey State Prison for Fatally Shooting an Acquaintance Three Years ago outside a Home in The Millbrook Park Section of Willingboro Township.
On Monday, December 4, 2023, The Honorable Mark P. Tarantino, J.S.C. Sentenced Kawcey Q. Owens to a Term of 30 Years to Life in Prison. Judge Tarantino Ordered Mr. Owens to Serve the Entile 30 Years before becoming Eligible for Parole.
This past September, a Jury sitting in Burlington County, New Jersey, deliberated for just Two Hours before Convicting Mr. Owens on The Charges of First Degree Murder; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. following the Trial, Mr. Owens Pled Guilty to Two Counts of Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.
The Sentence stems from an incident, when on October 8, 2020, shortly after 1:30 a.m., Members of The Willingboro Police Department responded to The First Block Maplewick Lane on a report of a Shooting. Upon arrival, Police Officers found Barry Barino, 28, deceased from a Gunshot Wound to his Head, outside the Rear Door of his Home.
The ensuing investigation revealed that Mr. Barino and Mr. Owens were acquaintances and that Mr. Owens had been inside Mr. Barino's home earlier before Luring Barino outside and then Owens Shot Mr. Barino in the Head with a .45 Caliber Handgun.
