BREAKING: Camden, New Jersey Man Charged In Homicide Investigation

23-YEAR-OLD CAMDEN MAN CHARGED FOR GUNNING DOWN AN 18-YEAR-OLD MAN ON OCTOBER 18, 2023

     "Xavier Rivera Has Been Charged With Murder & Weapons Offenses In The Fatal Shooting Of Jesus Manuel Ortiz-Hernandez On A Camden Street."

CAMDEN, NJ.- According to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, a Camden City, New Jersey man has been Arrested and Charged for The Shooting Death of a man on October 18, 2023, on a Camden, New Jersey Street.


     Following an investigation, on October 27, 2023, a Warrant was issued for The Arrest of Xavier Rivera, 23, of Camden, New Jersey on Charges of First Degree Murder; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. The Charges are in connection with The Fatal Shooting of Jesus Manuel Ortiz-Hernandez, 18, of Camden, New Jersey.


     On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at approximately 4:14 p.m., Members of The Camden County Police Department responded to The 2700 Block of Hayes Avenue in Camden. Upon arrival, Police Officers found Mr. Ortiz-Hernandez at 22nd Street and River Road, suffering from an apparent Gunshot Wound. Mr. Ortiz-Hernandez was immediately transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased at 7:15 p.m.


     A subsequent investigation by Members of The Camden County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit in conjunction with Detectives of The Camden County Police Department were able to locate Mr. Rivera in Winter Haven Florida. On November 30, 2023, Members of The U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force, Tampa Division with the assistance of The U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, Camden Division Arrested Mr. Rivera.


     Mr. Rivera remains in Custody in Florida pending an Extradition Hearing, at which time he will be returned to New Jersey and Lodged in The Camden County Jail pending Future Court Proceedings.
