BREAKING: Former Orange, New Jersey Man Sentenced To Life In Prison

FORMER ORANGE MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE PLUS TEN YEARS FOR THE MURDER OF HIS FORMER ROOMMATE

     "James Height Has Been Sentenced To Life Plus 10 Years In New Jersey State Prison For The June 2021 Shooting Death Of Renown Wilson."

NEWARK, NJ.- A 54-Year-Old former Orange, New Jersey man has been Sentenced to Life Plus an Additional Ten Years in New Jersey State Prison, by The Honorable State Superior Court Judge Mark S. Ali, for The June 24, 2021, Shooting Death of his Former Roommate, Renown Wilson, 55, of Orange, New Jersey.



     According to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, on August 9, 2023, a Jury sitting in Essex County, New Jersey Returned Guilty Verdicts against James Height on Charges of First Degree Aggravated Manslaughter; Secon Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. During a Subsequent Proceeding, Mr. Height was Convicted of a Second Degree Offense of Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon. Judge Ali Ordered that The Certain Persons Sentence run Consecutive to The Life Sentence, which added an Additional Ten Years to the Sentence.


     The Crimes occurred on June 24, 2021, when Mr. Height lay in wait outside Mr. Wilson's Home located in Orange, New Jersey. When Mr. Wilson arrived at Home, Height Shot him in the Stomach, then Chased Mr. Wilson and Shot him again, Grazing Wilson's Neck. Mr. Wilson who had known Height for Years allowed him to stay at his home and helped him find a job. Mr. Height eventually relocated to Salisbury, North Carolina. Five months after moving out, Height returned and Shot Mr. Wilson.


     After The Shooting, Height returned to Salisbury, North Carolina, where he was Apprehended at his Home. Eight Days later, on July 2, 2023, Mr. Wilson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. 


     At the time of the Shooting, Height had been out of State Prison for about a year after Serving Twenty-Five Years for Aggravated Manslaughter, during the Sentencing Hearing, Judge Ali noted that Height was apparently undeterred by his lengthy prison stay. Then Judge Ali urged Height to use the rest of his Life Counseling Younger Inmates to change the course of their lives by not committing additional crimes.


     "Video of the crime showed how calculated it was," said Assistant Prosecutor Arrianna Diamantis who tried the case for the state, "and justice has certainly been served."
