BREAKING: North Carolina Man Convicted In Fatal Shooting

BURLINGTON NORTH CAROLINA MAN CONVICTED ON CHARGES OF FATALLY SHOOTING HIS EX-ROOMMATE

     " An Essex County Jury Has Convicted James Height In The Fatal Shooting Of Renown Wilson Back In June 2021."

NEWARK, NJ.- A 55-Year-Old Man, who Fatally Shot his Ex-Roommate and then Fled to Burlington, North Carolina was Convicted by an Essex County Jury of Aggravated Manslaughter and Weapons Offenses on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.



     According to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, on Wednesday, following a Two-Week Trial before the Honorable Mark S. Ali, an Essex County Jury found James Height, 55, of Burlington, North Carolina of First Degree Aggravated Manslaughter; Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Due to Mr. Height's Prior Convictions, Height was also Convicted of Second Degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.


     The Conviction stems from an incident when on June 24, 2021, Mr. Height, Shot Renown Wilson, 55, of Orange, New Jersey with a .32 Caliber Revolver, outside Mr. Wilson's Orange Home. Mr. Wilson succumbed to his injuries sustained in the Shooting on July 2, 2021. 


     Area Ring Camera Video Surveillance captured Mr. Height at about 10:50 p.m. walking onto Mr. Wilson's property and waiting on his front porch for Wilson to return to his home in Orange, New Jersey. Upon Mr. Wilson's arrival, the two men are seen talking, at which time Height suddenly puts a Gun to Mr. Wilson's Head. Wilson then retreats to his Front Door, but Height prevents him from entering his Home, again Pointing the Gun at his Head. The two struggled onto the front yard, where Height Shot Mr. Wilson once in the stomach and then Chases Mr. Wilson into the Street, Shooting at him again and Grazing him in the Neck. Mr. Height then Fled to his Home in Burlington, North Carolina where he was Apprehended on July 7, 2021.


     Following the return of the Guilty Verdicts, Judge Ali scheduled Sentencing for Mr. Height for October 9, 2023. Due to Mr. Height's past Criminal History, Height Faces up to Life in New Jersey State Prison.
