PLAINFIELD MAN CONVICTED FOR THE 2020 STRANGULATION DEATH OF HIS GIRLFRIEND

ELIZABETH, NJ.- A 23-Year-Old Plainfield, New Jersey man will now face the rest of his life in New Jersey State Prison after a Union County Jury returned a Guilty Verdict against him for The Strangulation Death of his 19-Year-Old Girlfriend in 2020.
According to Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel, Bryan Gonzales-Martines, 23, of Plainfield, New Jersey was found Guilty on Tuesday of One Count of First Degree Murder. The Verdict is the result of a Month-Long Trial before The Honorable Thomas Isenhour. The Jury deliberated for less than a day before Returning the Guilty Verdict.
On the morning of Monday, July 6, 2020, Members of The Plainfield Police Department responded to a residence on The 700 Block of Kensington Avenue in Plainfield to conduct a requested Welfare Check. Upon arrival, Police Officers found the Body of Brenda Montoya-Cruz, 19, of Plainfield, New Jersey.
A Subsequent investigation by Detectives of The Union County Prosecutor's Office and Plainfield Police Department quickly identified Mr. Gonzalez-Martines as the individual responsible for The Strangulation Death of Ms. Montoya-Cruz.
Sentencing in this matter has been Scheduled for September 29, 2023, before Judge Isenhour, at which time Mr. Gonzalez-Martines will face a Sentence of Life in New Jersey State Prison.
