PLAINFIELD, NJ.- A 62-Year-Old Plainfield, New Jersey Man previously Convicted, in the 2011 Fatal Stabbing of his Girlfriend was Convicted again on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, by a Jury sitting in Union County, New Jersey.

Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel reported that Anthony James, 62, formally of Plainfield, New Jersey was found Guilty on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, on One Count of First Degree Murder; Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Following a Five Week Trial before The Honorable John Deitch, the Jury deliberated for a Day and a Half before Returning the Guilty Verdicts.

On September 28, 2011, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Members of The Plainfield Police Department responded to a residence located on The 300 Block of East Seventh Street in Plainfield after Mr. James had Called. Upon arrival, Police Officers found the Body of 48-Year-Old Audrey Tanksley in the bathtub deceased from Multiple Stab Wounds.

A Subsequent investigation by Union County Authorities determined that Ms. Tanksley had been Stabbed 94 Times and Mr. James was the individual for The Stabbing and Causing her Death.

Mr. James was originally Convicted in 2019, but in August of 2022, The Appellate Court reversed James' Conviction and Remanded the case back to Union County State Superior Court for a New Trial because Judge John Deitch who presided over the Trial gave The Jury improper instructions on Self-Defense.

Sentencing in this matter has been Scheduled for June 23, 2023, before Judge Deitch, at which time Mr. James will Face a Potential Life Sentence in New Jersey State Prison.
