NEWARK SHOOTING LEAVES 2 DEAD AND 1 INJURED, AND THE SUSPECT FATALLY SHOT BY POLICE

NEWARK, NJ.- A 7-Year-Old Boy and an Unidentified Man, tragically fell victim to another Senseless Act of Gun Violence last night in Newark, New Jersey, leaving relatives struggling for answers.
Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II reported that The Essex County Homicide Task Force and Detectives of The Newark Police Department are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding last night's Shooting in Newark that left Two Dead, One Hospitalized, and the Suspect Fatally Shot by Police.
On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at approximately 8:33 P.M., Members of The Newark Police Department responded to The 300 Block of Johnson Avenue in Newark on a report of a Shooting. Upon arrival, Police Officers found an Unidentified Man, and a 7-Year-Old Boy, both having sustained Life-Threatening Gunshot Wounds. The Man Succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Boy was immediately transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. A Third Man was transported to Beth Israel Hospital for treatment for a Non-Life Threatening Gunshot Wound.
Further, upon arrival, Police Officer encountered a man running from the scene Armed with a Handgun. After a short foot chase, Police Officers Shot and Killed the Suspect when the Suspect turned and Pointed the Weapon at the Police. The Shooting of the Suspect is under investigation by The New Jersey State Office of The Attorney General.
