Mahwah Woman Charged With Arson

 32-YEAR-OLD MAHWAH WOMAN CHARGED WITH ARSON FOR SETTING HER BEDROOM ON FIRE

     " Amel Mersali Has Been Charged With Aggravated Arson & Causing Or Risking Widespread Injury Or Damage."

MAHWAH, NJ.- On Wednesday, April 5, 2023, a 32-Year-Old, Amel Mersali of Mahwah, New Jersey woman who was apparently suffering an apparent mental health issue was Charged with Setting Fire to the Bedroom of her Hawthorne Lane Condominium, late yesterday afternoon.

     Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella reported On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, just around 4:00 p.m., Members of The Mahwah Police Department responded to a Residential Fire at 2102 Hawthore Lane in Mahwah. Upon arrival, Police Officers found Heavy Smoke coming from the residence and observed Fire in the Bedroom, which was extinguished by The Mahwah Fire Department.

     An investigation by Members of The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit in conjunction with The Mahwah Police Department quickly determined that Ms. Mersali had intentionally Set the Fire Inside her Residence.

     Accordingly, Ms. Mersali was Charged with Second Degree Aggravated Arson; and Third Degree Causing or Risking Widespread Injury or Damage. Ms. Mersali was Transported to Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus, New Jersey for Evaluation and further Treatment. Upon her release from The Medical Center, Ms. Mersali will be Scheduled for her First Appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
