Irvington New Jersey Man Convicted

25 YEAR OLD IRVINGTON MAN CONVICTED ON CHARGES FOR THE FATAL SHOOTING OF A NEWARK TEEN

     " Leo Germain Was Convicted Yesterday In The June 2021 Shooting Death of A 16-Year-Old Newark Boy."

NEWARK, NJ.- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II reported that On Friday, March 31, 2023, a Jury sitting in Essex County, New Jersey, has Convicted a 25-Year-Old Irvington, New Jersey man for Fatally Shooting a 16-Year-Old Newark Boy.



     Following a Two-Day Trial before The Honorable Patrick Arre, J.S.C. The Jury deliberated for just one day, before Convicting Leo Germain, 25, of Irvington, on the Charges of First Degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder; First Degree Murder; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Two Counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. 


     The Conviction is a result of an investigation when, on June 10, 2021, Members of The Newark Police Department responded to an Apartment Building located on The 100 block of Seymour Avenue in Newark on a report of a Shooting.


     Upon arrival, Police Officers found an unresponsive Teen Boy, having succumbed to Multiple Gunshot Wounds, including one to his Head. The Boy was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.


      During the course of the investigation, by Members of The Essex County Homicide Task Force, in conjunction with Detectives from The Newark Police Department, were able to identify Mr. Germain and Three other Unidentified Individuals as Suspects and the individuals responsible for The Death of The Boy.


     Judge Arre has Scheduled Sentencing in the matter for May 19, 2023, in Essex County State Superior Court, at which time he Faces Life in New Jersey State Prison. 


     "The jury held Leo Germain accountable for his vicious conduct against a boy whose life was taken far too soon," said Assistant Prosecutor Jacqueline Bilinkas, who tried the case with Assistant Prosecutor Jenna Ventola. " This verdict has brought justice to the family of the young victim, " added Bilinkas, " and will hopefully deter others from committing these acts of violence."
