Arrest Made In Stabbing

32-YEAR-OLD MAN CHARGED IN PATERSON MOSQUE STABBING

     " Serif Zorba Has Been Charged With Attempted Murder & Weapons Offenses In Yesterday's Stabbing Of A 65-Year-Old Man."

PATERSON, NJ.- On Sunday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes reported that a 32-Year-Old man has been Charged in connection with an Early Sunday Morning Stabbing of a man inside a Paterson, New Jersey Mosque.



     On Sunday, April 9, 2023, at approximately 5:37 a.m., Members of The Paterson Police Department responded to The Omar Mosque located at 501 Getty Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey on a report of a Stabbing. Upon arrival, Police Officers found 32-Year-Old Serif Zorba being restrained by Congregants inside The Mosque. Further, Police Officers found a 65-Year-Old man suffering from Non-Life Threatening Stab Wounds. The man was immediately transported to Saint Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson for treatment.


     Based on the initial investigation by Police Officers, Mr. Zorba was identified as the assailant who Stabbed The Man. Mr. Zorbo was subsequently Arrested at the scene.


     Accordingly, Mr. Zorba was Charged with One Count of First Degree Attempted Murder; Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. 


     If Convicted on the Charges, Mr. Zorba could face a potential Sentence of up to 20 Years in New Jersey State Prison. The Sentence would also be Subject to The No Early Release Act which would require Mr. Zorba to Serve Eighty-Five Percent of his Custodial Term before becoming eligible for Parole.


     Mr. Zorba was Processed on the Charges and Remanded to The Passaic County Jail pending his First Apperance in Central Judicial Processing Court which has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Today. The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has Filed a Pretrial Detention Motion that will be scheduled in the upcoming days.


" The Rules Of The Court Require Us To Include A Statement, That States: The Charges Outlined In This Publication Are Merely Accusations And The Defendant And Or Defendants Are Presumed Innocent Unless And Until Proven Guilty Beyond Reasonable Doubt."
