PATERSON MAN ARRESTED FOR THE AGGRAVATED SEXUAL ASSAULT OF A CHILD

PATERSON, NJ.- Today, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Acting Paterson Police Chief jointly announced the Arrest of a 56-Year-Old Paterson, New Jersey man for the alleged Multiple Sexual Assaults of a Child.
Edwin Chaparro, 56, 0f Paterson, News Jersey was Arrested Yesterday by Members of The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit and Charged with One Count of First Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault; Two Counts of Second Degree Sexual Assault; and Three Counts of Second Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
On November 5, 2022, The Passaic County Special Victims Unit were contacted by The Paterson Police Department regarding allegations of Sexual Assault. Mr Chaparro has been accused of Sexually Assaulting the Child who at the time of the alleged offenses was between the Ages of Five and Seven. The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit collected evidence and interviewed multiple witnesses during the investigation. Detectives determined that Mr. Chaparro Sexually Assaulted the Child on more than one occasions between June of 2001 and June of 2004 at a Paterson, New Jersey residence.
If convicted on all of the Charges Mr. Chaparro will face the potential Sentencing Exposure of Life in New Jersey State Prison pursuant to The Jessica Lunsford Act.
Mr. Chaparro was processed on the Charges and remanded to The Passaic County Jail pending his First Appearance. The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has Filed a Pretrial Detention Motion to have Mr. Chaparro Detained pending the resolution of the Charges against him.
