HUDSON COUNTY AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATING THE DEATH OF A JERSEY CITY WOMAN

     " The Body Of A Jersey City Woman Was Found In A Shallow Grave In Kearny, New Jersey."

KEARNY, NJ.- On Wednesday, February 8, 2023, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced the Hudson County Homicide Unit are continuing to investigate the circumstance surrounding the Suspicious Death of a 33-Year-Old Jersey City woman found in a shallow grave in Kearny, New Jersey on Tuesday afternoon.

     On Tuesday, February 7, 2023, Members of The Jersey City Police Department responded to a residence located on Van Horne Street in The City on a Welfare Check following a Missing Persons Report.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers discovered suspicious circumstance at the residence. A short time later The Jersey City Police Department notified The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office for assistance. During the investigation, information led Detectives to the area of Central Avenue and Third Street in Kearny, New Jersey where a shallow grave was found containing the remains of a woman.

     This Death is considered suspicious at this time. The woman has been tentatively identified as Luz Hernandez, 33, of Jersey City. Ms. Hernandez was pronounced at 4:53 p.m. The Cause and Manner of Death are pending the findings of The Regional Medical Examiner's Office. Ms. Hernandez was first reported Missing on Monday, February 6, 2023.

     The investigation remains active and ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time. The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office asks anyone with information regarding the Death of Ms. Hernandez to contact The Prosecutor's Office Tips Line at (201) 915-1345.
