EAST ORANGE MAN CHARGED IN BERGEN COUNTY CRIME SPREE

     " Thomas Johnson Has Been Arrested For Committing 5 Armed Robberies In A 30 Minute Time Span."

HACKENSACK, NJ.- On Monday, February 6, 2023, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced that a 30-Year-Old East Orange, New Jersey man has been Arrested and Charged in connection to Five Armed Robberies of Gas Stations and Convenience Stores during a 30-Minute time span in Bergen County, New Jersey.


     During the evening hours of Sunday, January 22, 2023, Members of Multiple Police Departments in Bergen County responded to reports of Four Gunpoint Armed Robberies at a 7-Eleven, a BP Gas Station, a Bolla Gas Station, and a Valero Gas Station. The alleged Robberies were committed by a suspect wearing the same clothing. All Four Robberies were reported in a 30-Minute time span.


     On Wednesday, January 25, 2023, Members of The Elmwood Police Department responded to a 7-Eleven in the Town on a report of an Armed Robbery. The initial investigation by Detectives quickly determined that the suspect matched the description of the person committing the Robberies committed Sunday Evening.


     During the investigation Detectives were able to identify Thomas Johnson as the suspect, and the person responsible for the Five Robberies. On Thursday, February 2, 2023, Detectives Executed a Court Authorized Search Warrant on Mr. Johnson's East Orange residence at which time Mr. Johnson was Arrested.


     As a result, Mr. Johnson was Charged with Six Counts of First Degree Armed Robbery; Five Counts of Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; Five Counts of Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and One Count of Fourth Degree Aggravated Assault by Pointing a Firearm. 


     Mr. Johnson was Processed on the Charges and remanded to The Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey.
