Former Corrections Officer Convicted

FORMER BURLINGTON COUNTY CONVICTED ON CHARGES OF AGGRAVATED MANSLAUGHTER

     " Bruce Gomola Convicted On Charges In The July 24, 2020, Medical Office Shooting."

MOUNT HOLLY, NJ.- Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw announced that last Tuesday, February 7, 2023, a Jury sitting in Burlington County, New Jersey has Convicted a Former Burlington County Corrections Officer for the Fatal Shooting of a Medical Center Employee and Injuring another.

     After deliberating for approximately Five Hours over Three Days, a Burlington County Jury returned Guilty Verdicts against Bruce Gomola, 54, of Burlington Township, New Jersey on Charges of First Degree Aggravated Manslaughter; and Second Degree Aggravated Assault. The Jurors declined to Convict Mr. Gomola of the more serious Charge of First Degree Murder.

     The Shooting occurred at The New Jersey Urology Office on Midlantic Drive during the afternoon hours of July 24, 2020. The investigation determined that Mr. Gomola became upset about the details of an appointment concerning his Father.

     When Patient Services Representative Stephanie Horton attempted to discuss the situation with Mr. Gomola, he pushed her and then pulled a Handgun and Fired One Shot into her Chest. The Bullet exited through Ms. Horton's Back and Struck a Female Patient in the Knee.

     Mr. Gomola then left the building and drove away. A short time later Mr. Gomola returned to the scene and surrendered to a Detective from The Mount Laurel Police Department. Ms. Horton, 44, of Willingboro, New Jersey was transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey where she succumbed to her injury and was pronounced deceased a short time later. The other Female patient was treated and has made a full recovery.

     Sentencing in the matter has been scheduled for April 14, 2023, in Burlington County State Superior Court. Mr. Gomola has been lodged in The Morris County Correctional Facility in Morristown, New Jersey since his Arrest.
