MAN CONVICTED MURDER CHARGES FOR THE 2018 KILLING OF HIS CHILDREN'S MOTHER

NEWARK, NJ.- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II announced that following a four week trial, a Jury sitting in Essex County, New Jersey has returned Guilty Verdicts against Gualberto Lebron, 37, of Newark, New Jersey for the 2018 Horrific Sexual Assault and Murder of Julia Vega the mother of his Three Children. The Guilty Verdicts bring closure to a Five Year Ordeal for Ms. Vega's Family.
The Jury also Convicted Gualberto's brother Gilberto Lebron, 38, of Newark, New Jersey on Charges of Desecrating Human Remains; Hindering Prosecution; and Conspiracy for helping Destroy Ms. Vega's remains and covering up the Crime.
The Charges stem from the Spring of 2018, when Mr. Lebron's and Ms.Vega's on and off relationship with a History of Domestic Violence Exploded that led up to a May 5, 2018 incident where Mr. Lebron while their Children were present Sexually Assaulted and tried to Strangle Ms.Vega inside her newly rented apartment in Newark. Ms. Vega was eventually able to escape fleeing to the outside of her apartment with Mr. Lebron chasing and continuing to Assault her until neighbors intervened. Mr Lebron was able to Flee the Scene before Police arrived. A warrant was issued for his Arrest which he evaded for several days.
Over the next Three Days Mr. Lebron increased his Stalking and Threats against Ms. Vega, Threatening to Kill her if she did not drop the Charges against him. Friends and Police encouraged Ms.Vega to move into a Domestic Violence Shelter, which she declined, having recently rented her own apartment with her Children.
Then on May 9, 2028, while her Children were in School, Ms. Vega went home on her lunch break from a local Daycare Center where she worked to walk her dogs, At which time Mr. Lebron Stalked her, Broke into her apartment and Murdered her. Mr. Lebron then cleaned the apartment and then rolled Ms. Vega's Body in a carpet carried outside and loaded it into Ms. Vega's Minivan and Drove away. Ms. Vega was reported missing later that evening. A Missing Persons investigation ensued.
During the next several days, Mr. Lebron kept Ms. Vega's body concealed while he scouted locations to hide her body. Mr. Lebron then enlisted the help of his brother, Gilberto to Destroy her Remains and other Evidence. The two then placed her body in Heavy-Duty Trash Bags filled with Chemicals and Sealed it with Duct Tape. On June 1, 2018, Ms. Vega's Remains were discovered behind an Abandoned House in Irvington, New Jersey.
Assistant Prosecutor Adam B. Wells who tried the case with Assistant Prosecutor Monica Calderon, said what Gualberto Lebron did to Julia Vega and her Children, was "Without Exaggeration-Monstrous."
When Sentenced on April 3, 2023, Mr. Lebron will Face a Mandatory New Jersey State Prison Term without the possibility of Parole.
