Arrest Made In Trenton Homicide

BURLINGTON NEW JERSEY MAN CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH SUNDAY'S HOMICIDE

     " Jamar Leonard Has Been Charged With Murder, & Weapons Offenses In Connection With The Fatal Shooting Of Stephanie Vil."

TRENTON, NJ.- A Burlington, New Jersey man has been Arrested and Charged in connection with the Fatal Shooting of a woman Sunday Morning on a Trenton Street, according to Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri. 

     Jamar Leonard, 38, of Burlington, New Jersey has been taken into custody and Charged with One Count of First Degree Murder; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and Second Degree Certain Persons not to Possess Weapons.

     On Sunday, February 12, 2023, at approximately 9:06 a.m., Members of The Trenton Police Department responded to the area of Prospect Street and West Hanover Avenue on multiple reports of a woman being Shot. 

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a woman, later identified as Stephanie Vil, 34, of Burlington, New Jersey, lying on the street near a Heavily Damaged Vehicle having succumbed to a Gunshot Wound. Ms. Vil was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene at 9:19 a.m., Sunday morning.

     Mr. Leonard was processed on the Charges and remanded to The Mercer County Correctional Facility pending a First Appearance. The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office has Filed a Pretrial Detention Motion to have Mr. Leonard Detained pending the outcome of the Charges Filed against him.
