North Plainfield Man Arrested

NORTH PLAINFIELD MAN RETURNED TO NEW JERSEY TO FACE CHARGES FOR THE SEXUAL ASSAULT OF A CHILD

     " Fabian Osuna-Vargas Has Been Returned To New Jersey After Fleeing To Salt Lake City, Utah To Avoid Facing Charges Of Sexual Assault Of A 9-Year-Old Girl.'

NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ.- On Tuesday, November 15, 2022, Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald and North Plainfield Police Chief William Parenti announced the Arrest of Fabian Osuna-Vargas, 39, of North Plainfield, New Jersey. Mr. Osuna-Vargas had been wanted in connection with the October 19, 2022 Sexual Assault of a 9-Year-Old Girl that occurred in North Plainfield, New Jersey. 



     Mr. Osuna-Vargas has been Charged with One Count of First Degree Aggravated Assault; and Second Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Mr.Osuna-Vargas was taken into custody after debarking a plane in Salt Lake City, Utah by Members of The Salt Lake City Police Department. Subsequently Mr. Osuna-Vargas waived extradition as returned to New Jersey on November 4, 2022 and lodged in The Somerset County Jail in Somerville, New Jersey.  Mr. Osuna-Vargas is awaiting a Detention Hearing.


     Somerset County authorities reported, that on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, Members of The North Plainfield Police Department responded to a report that a 9-Year-Old Girl had been Sexually Assaulted earlier that day.


     A joint investigation ensued, and Detectives from The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit with Detectives from The North Plainfield Police Department determined that Osuna-Vargas Sexually Assaulted the Child, and a Warrant was issued. Before Detectives were able to Arrest Osuna-Vargas fled to Chicago where he boarded a plane to Salt Lake City, Utah where he was apprehended.


     If convicted on the Charges, Mr. Osuna-Vargas will face a New Jersey State Prison sentence of 25-Years to Life in Prison, with a mandatory minimum of 25-Years to be served before Parole Eligibility pursuant Jessica Lunsford Act.
