MARLTON NEW JERSEY MAN CHARGED FOR CAUSING FATAL MOUNT LAUREL COLLISION
" Desmond Newberry Has Been Charged With Aggravated Manslaughter, Vehicular Homicide, & Possession Of A Controlled Dangerous Substance."

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ.- On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw and Mount Laurel Police Chief Stephen Riedener announced that a 45-Year-Old Marlton, New Jersey man has been Arrested and Charged with Homicide Offenses, who has been accused of Driving Under The Influence of Alcohol and for Causing the Death of a Mount Laurel man during a High-Speed Collision in Mount Laurel in early September of 2022.
Desmond Newberry, 45, of Marlton, New Jersey has been Charged with First Degree Aggravated Manslaughter; First Degree Vehicular Homicide; and Third Degree Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance. The Charges will be presented to a Grand Jury for possible Indictment.
The Charges are the result of an investigation that began on September 3, 2022, at approximately 8:00 p.m., when Members of The Mount Laurel Police Department responded to a motor vehicle collision in the area of Hainesport Road near The Cucina Carini Restaurant.
The ensuing investigation by authorities determined that Glenn Keen owner of The Cucina Carini Restaurant, was leaving the restaurant and had pulled out of the parking lot onto Hainesport Road when he was struck by a vehicle being operated by Mr. Newberry. mr. Keen was extricated from his vehicle by people, prior to the arrival of Police Officers. Mr. Keen was immediately Airlifted to Temple University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased a short time later.
Mr. Newberry was immediately transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey.
After a Court Authorized Search Warrant was obtained, investigators determined from The Event Data Recorder from Mr. Newberry's Sport Utility Vehicle showed that Mr. Newberry was travelling in excess of 120 Miles Per Hour just moments before it struck Mr. Keen's Vehicle.
Mr. Newberry was processed on the offenses and lodged in The Burlington County Jail in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. A Pretrial Detention Hearing will be held today in Burlington County State Superior Court. If Granted, Mr. Newberry will be detained pending the resolution of the charges filed against him.
