PHILADELPHIA MAN CHARGED IN THE MAY 2022 STRANGULATION AND STABBING DEATH

MAPLE SHADE, NJ.- On Wednesday, November 8, 2022, Burlington Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw and Maple Shade Police Chief Christopher J. Fletcher announced that a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania man has been Arrested and Charged for the Murder of a 36-Year-Old Burlington County, New Jersey woman inside a Maple Shade motel room that occurred in May of 2022.
Alexander Rivera, 26, of The 6300 Block of Cardiff Street in The Mayfair Section of Philadelphia, was taken into Custody at his home on November 4, 2022, by Members of The U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force. Rivera was lodged in The Philadelphia City Jail, pending Extradition back to New Jersey.
Mr. Rivera has been Charged with One Count of First Degree Murder; Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
The Arrest is a result of an investigation by Members of The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office in conjunction with Detectives from The Maple Shade Police Department.
On May 11, 2022, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Members of The Maple Shade Police Department responded to The Bel-Air Motor Lodge on Route 73 on a report of an unresponsive woman that was discovered by motel staff in room 410.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found Michelle L. Johnson, 36, who had previously lived in numerous locations in Burlington and Camden County Areas was found deceased inside room 410. A subsequent autopsy performed by The Burlington County Medical Examiner's Office determined that The Cause of Death was from Strangulation and Multiple Stab Wounds and The Manner of Death to be that of Homicide.
