BAYONNE MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR THE 2020 JERSEY CITY FATAL SHOOTING

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- On Tuesday, November 1, 2022, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced that on Monday, October 31, 2022, The Honorable Vincent J. Militello, J.S.C. Sentenced Bernard Wilson, 29, of Bayonne, New Jersey to a Term of 20-Years in New Jersey State Prison for the 2020 fatal Shooting Death of Abimael Fuentes, 38, of Jersey City, New Jersey.
Mr. Wilson Pleaded Guilty to First Degree Aggravated Manslaughter on Thursday, July 21, 2022. Monday's Sentence is pursuant to The No Early Release Act, which requires Mr. Wilson to serve 85 % of the sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
On Tuesday, April 21, 2020, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Members of The Jersey City Police Department responded to Brinkerhoff Street between Monticello and Bergen Avenues on a report of Shots Fired.
Upon arrival, Police Officers discovered a man, later identified as Abimael Fuentes, 38, of Jersey City, who had sustained a Gunshot to his Abdomen. Mr. Fuentes was immediately transported to Jersey City Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injury and was subsequently pronounced deceased a short time later.
A subsequent autopsy performed by The Regional Medical Examiner's Office determined the Cause of Death to be a Gunshot Wound and the Manner of Death to be Homicide.
