NEWARK, NJ.- On Tuesday, November 8, 2022, U.S. Attorney Phillip R. Sellinger announced that a Gloucester County, New Jersey, man on Tuesday admitted that he illegally obtained more than $400,000. in unemployment insurance benefits.
Willie Carter, 23, of Paulsboro, New Jersey, Pleaded Guilty by videoconference before U.S. District Judge Renee Marie Bumb to an information Charging him with Wire Fraud.
According to documents filed by authorities, from July 2020 through October 2020, Mr Carter submitted fraudulent unemployment insurance benefit applications to various States. These States provided, and Mr. Carter obtained more than $400,000. in unemployment insurance benefits.
The Charge of Wire Fraud carries a Maximum Penalty of 20 Years in Federal Prison and a Fine of $250,000. or Twice the Gross Loss suffered by the victims, whichever is greater. Sentencing in the matter has been scheduled for March 14, 2023.
