FREEHOLD, NJ.- Monmouth County Authorities reported on Thursday, a Monmouth Beach man, who had previously owned a residential construction company, has been Sentenced to Probation after Pleading Guilty to bilking a client out of Tens of Thousands of Dollars who hired him to build a single home in Ocean Township, New Jersey.
During a hearing on Friday, November 4, 2022, in Monmouth County Superior Court. Mihkel Grunbaum, 49, was Sentenced by The Honorable Richard W. English, J.S.C., to a Term of Two Years Probation and order to Pay $65, 000.00 immediately in Restitution to the victim.
The investigation had uncovered that Mr. Grunbaum, former owner of Shore GC Group, LLC., had entered into a contract with the victim in 2018, for the construction of a single family home on a piece of property the victim owned in Ocean Township, New Jersey.
The contract required that progress payments were to be made to Mr. Grunbaum, and were only to be used for construction of the project. After receiving payment Mr. Grunbaum abandoned the project and kept the $65,000.00 and used it for personal expenses and payments for other projects.
After the victim terminated the contract and retained another builder, Grunbaum refused to refund the victim's money. The victim reported the Theft to The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, and an investigation ensued. After a review of Mr. Grunbaum's bank records and interviews with subcontractors and material suppliers revealed that Grunbaum never used any of the money for the victim's project, but instead used it for his personal gain.
