ARREST MADE IN NEW YEAR'S EVE AFTERNOON PATERSON SHOOTING INVESTIGATION

PATERSON, NJ.- On Saturday, January 1, 2021 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announced that based upon an investigation by The Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Calvin Holmes, 34, of Paterson, New Jersey, has been Arrested and Charged in connection to a Shooting investigation that took place December 31, 2021, in the area of Rosa Parks Boulevard and 12th Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey.
Mr. Holmes has been Charged with First Degree Attempted Murder; First Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; Second Degree Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons; and Third Degree Terroristic Threats.
On Friday, December 31, 2021, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Members of The Paterson Police Department responded to the area of Rosa Parks Boulevard and 12th Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey on a report of a shooting.
The Police investigation later determined that a 27-Year-Old Paterson man had sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound during the incident. The investigation further revealed that, after a verbal dispute in the area of Rosa Parks Boulevard and 12th Avenue, Mr. Holmes shot the victim and threatened to kill a 27-Year-Old Paterson woman.
Based on the investigation, Mr. Holmes was identified as the Shooter and a Warrant was issued for his Arrest. On December 31, 2021, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Members of The Paterson Police Department Arrested Mr. Holmes in the area of North York Street and Sparrow Street in Paterson.
If Convicted Mr. Holmes will face The Sentencing Exposure on First Degree Attempted Murder of Ten to Twenty Years in New Jersey State Prison with 85% of the term of service before parole eligibility pursuant to the No Early Release Act and Five Years Parole Supervision; on First Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon it is Ten to Twenty Years in New Jersey State Prison; on Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun it is Five to Ten Years in New Jersey State Prison with a Minimum of Forty-Two Months before Parole Eligibility pursuant to The Graves Act; on Second Degree Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose it is Five to Ten Years in New Jersey State Prison with Forty-Two Months of Parole Ineligibility pursuant to The Graves Act; on Second Degree Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons it is Five to Ten Years in New Jersey State Prison with Five Years to be served before Parole Eligibility; and on Third Degree Terroristic Threats it is Three to Five Years in New Jersey State Prison.
