ELIZABETH NEW JERSEY MAN ARRESTED AND CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH NEW YEAR'S EVE FATAL STABBING

ELIZABETH, NJ.- On Saturday, January 1, 2022 Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel, Elizabeth Police Director Earl Graves and Elizabeth Police Chief Giacomo announced that an Elizabeth, New Jersey man has been Charged in connection to a Fatal Stabbing that took place on Friday, December 31, 2021.
Edwin Rivera, 48, of Elizabeth has been Charged with First Degree Murder; Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, in the Stabbing Death of Jose Burgos, 56, of Elizabeth, New Jersey.
On Friday, December 31, 2021, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Members of The Elizabeth Police Department responded to The 400 Block of Elizabeth Avenue on a report of a Stabbing. Upon arrival, Police Officers were notified that a witness to the Stabbing transported Mr. Burgos to Trinitas Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased.
Mr. Rivera was taken into custody without incident. Rivera was processed on the Charges and remanded to The Union County Jail in Elizabeth, New Jersey, pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court.
