EARLY SATURDAY MORNING SHOOTING IN PATERSON NEW JERSEY LEAVES 22-YEAR-OLD PATERSON INJURED AND SHOTS FIRED A POLICE OFFICERS

PATERSON, NJ.- On Sunday, September 6, 2021 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announced that on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Members of The Paterson Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the area of East 22nd Street and 12th Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey.
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a twenty-two year-old male Paterson resident, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. While responding to the scene, a Paterson Police Officer attempted to pull over a vehicle of interest that was driving away from the scene of the shooting. At that time, an occupant of the vehicle shot at the responding Officer.
The Paterson Police Officer returned fire from his service-issued firearm, however the vehicle and its occupants were able to avoid apprehension. The suspect vehicle and its occupants at the time of the shooting are currently at large. The Paterson Police Officer was not injured. It is unknown if the any of the suspects were injured. The victim of the shooting at East 22nd Street has been admitted at Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey in stable condition.
Pursuant to Attorney General Directive 2019-4, the Attorney General Office of Public Integrity and Accountability has been notified. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has been designated the Independent Prosecutor for this Attempted Murder Investigation and the subsequent officer involved shooting.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. More information may become available once it is released by authorities.
