GRANDMOTHER AND HER 3-YEAR-OLD GRANDSON REMAIN IN CRITICAL CONDITION AFTER BEING STRUCK BY A VEHICLE IN SATURDAY HIT AND RUN

NORTH BERGEN, NJ.- On Saturday, September 4, 2021, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced that shortly after midnight on Saturday morning, Members of The North Bergen Police Department responded to the area of Tonnele Avenue and 46th Street in North Bergen, New Jersey on reports of a single vehicle striking multiple pedestrians. Upon arrival, responding officers found two individuals with life-threatening injuries. The vehicle that struck them had left the scene.
During the preliminary investigation by The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and The North Bergen Police Department, it was discovered that a mid-size sedan struck a 56-year-old female and her 3-year-old grandson, both from Queens, New York, while they were crossing the street at that intersection. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver who fled the scene.
The two victims of the collision were transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where they are currently being treated for their injuries. Both of the victim’s injuries are critical and life-threatening at this time.
The collision is being actively investigated by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the North Bergen Police Department. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the Collision Unit at 201-915-1345.
