Arrest Made In Paterson Homicide

ARREST MADE IN CONNECTION TO SEPTEMBER 11, 2021 HOMICIDE AT 485 EAST 18th STREET IN PATERSON, NEW JERSEY

     " Rasheed Thomas Of Paterson, New Jersey Has Been Charged With Murder & Weapons Offenses In The Fatal Shooting Of Elijah Wilson."

PATERSON, NJ.- On Sunday, September 26, 2021 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announced that based on an investigation by The Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and The United States Secret Service, Rasheed Thomas, 19-years old, from Paterson, New Jersey was arrested on September 25, 2021, in connection to the homicide that took place on September 11, 2021, at 485 East 18th Street in Paterson, New Jersey.



      Mr. Thomas has been  Charged with First Degree Murder; Second Degree Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose; and Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun. 


     On Saturday, September 11, 2021, at approximately 2:49 a.m., Members of The Paterson Police Department responded to the area of 485 East 18th Street in Paterson, New Jersey in response to a report of a shooting. 


     Upon arrival, Police Officers located a victim, Elijah Wilson, 20,  of Paterson, lying on the corner of East 18th Street and Fulton Street with apparent gunshot wounds. Mr. Wilson was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.


     A subsequent investigation revealed that Mr. Thomas was responsible for the murder of Mr. Wilson. Mr. Thomas was arrested on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at approximately 5:15 p.m. by Members of The Paterson Police Department, The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, The United States Secret Service, and The Elmwood Park Police Department, in Elmwood Park, New Jersey. Thomas was taken into custody without incident.


     If convicted, the Crime of Murder has a sentencing range from a Minimum of Thirty Years up to Life Imprisonment; the crimes of Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, both have a sentencing range of Five to Ten Years in Prison with Forty-Two Months to be served before parole eligibility.


     The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office will file a motion for Pretrial Detention that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.


     The investigation remains active ongoing, more information may become available once it is released by authorities.
