UPDATE: Mount Laurel Man Charged With Additional Charges

 MOUNT LAUREL NEW JERSEY MAN CHARGED WITH BIAS INTIMIDATION OFFENSES NOW FACES MORE CHARGES

     " Edward C. Matthews Of Mount Laurel New Jersey Has Been Charged With Additional Crimes, & May Remain Incarcerated Pending Adjudication Of The Offenses."

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ.- On Thursday, July 8, 2021, Burlington County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Mount Laurel Township Police Chief Stephen Riedener announced on July 8, 2021, that a Mount Laurel, New Jersey man that was arrested earlier this week for Bias-Intimidation Charges against his neighbors, has been additional charged with Damaging the Property of his victims, Stalking and Narcotics Violations, among other offenses.



     Edward C. Matthews, of the 3600 Block of Gramercy Way in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, was charged on Thursday with Two Counts of Third Degree Criminal Mischief; Third Degree Possession of a Weapon (Slingshot) for an Unlawful Purpose; Third Degree Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance; Third Degree Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance with Intent to Distribute; Fourth Degree Stalking; Two Counts of Fourth Degree Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons; and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 


     Matthews is presently in The Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly, New Jersey, where he was lodged on Monday, July 5, 2021, after being taken into custody at his residence. Matthews was initially charged on the on Friday July 2, 2021, and again on Monday July 5, 2021 with a total of Three Counts of Fourth Degree Harassment-Bias Crime with the Purpose to intimidate; Two Counts of Harassment; and One Count of Trespass, stemming from two confrontations with neighbors involving Racial Slurs and Using Threatening Language and Gestures.


     The Burlington Prosecutor's Office has filed a Motion in The Superior Court to keep Matthews incarcerated while his charges are adjudicated. A detention hearing that had been scheduled for today, July 9, 2021 has been postponed due to the additional charges filed against him. The new Detention Hearing has been tentatively scheduled in Superior Court for Tuesday, July 13, 2021.


     Burlington County Prosecutor Coffina would like to acknowledge the diligent efforts of the Law Enforcement Agencies that participated in the investigation, and a Special Thanks to the residents for assisting Detectives with the investigation resulting in the arrest of Matthews.


" The Rules Of The Court Require Us To Include A Statement, Which States: The Charges Are Merely Accusations And The Defendant And Or Defendants Are Presumed Innocent Unless And Until Prove Guilty Beyond Reasonable Doubt."
