A 21-YEAR-OLD WOMAN HAS BEEN CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO ABUSING CHILDREN AT THE DAYCARE CENTER WHERE SHE WORKED

LINDENWOLD, NJ.- On Saturday, July 17, 2021, Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill S. Mayer and Lindenwold Borough Police Chief Michael P. Murphy announced that Maggie Fruit, 21, of Somerdale, New Jersey was Charged on Thursday, July 15, 2021 with First Degree Attempted Murder and Third Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, for Physically Assaulting a One-Year-Old Child, at a Daycare Center located at the 600 Block of Crews Landing Road in Lindenwold, New Jersey, on Thursday, July 15, 2021.
On Thursday, July 15, 2021, at approximately 1:41 p.m., Camden County Central Communications received a 911 Emergency Call in reference to a child being abused at a Daycare Center.
Upon arrival, Members of The Lindenwold Police Department were shown video surveillance that captured the incident. Additionally, Officers interviewed witnesses who observed the incident, and were able to remove the child from Ms. Fruit, who has been employed at the Daycare Center for the past two months. The child was transported to an area hospital for examination and released.
Further investigation and review of video surveillance revealed that Ms. Fruit being physically abusive to another child assigned to the same classroom thirty minutes prior to the first incident. The child's parents were notified, and Fruit was subsequently taken into custody and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child. That child did not require medical attention.
Ms. Fruit was processed and remanded to The Camden County Correctional Facility, and is awaiting a Pretrial Detention Hearing in State Superior Court.
