PATERSON, NJ.- On Wednesday, July 21, 2021 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announced that based upon an investigation by The Paterson Police Department in conjunction with The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office, Rashon Johnson, 30, and Nascir Robinson, 22, both men from Paterson, New Jersey were arrested and charged in connection to a shooting investigation that occurred in the early morning hours, on Monday, July 5, 2021, in the area of Park and Madison Avenues in Paterson, New Jersey.
Rashon Johnson, has been Charged with Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun; First degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun; and Second Degree Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons.
Nascir Robinson, has been Charged with Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun; Second Degree Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons; and Fourth Degree Possession of Hollow Point Bullets.
On Monday, July 5, 2021, at approximately 2:39 a.m., Members of The Paterson Police Department were advised that a 30-year-old Paterson, New Jersey man, had arrived at Saint Joseph's University Medical Center seeking treatment for a non-life threatening gunshot wound. While Police Officers were enroute, a 22-year-old Paterson, New Jersey man also arrived at the hospital seeking treatment for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
Based on the investigation, Detectives identified Rashon Johnson and Nascir Robinson as individuals who possessed handguns during the shooting incident. Members of The Paterson Police Department arrested Nascir Robinson at Paterson Police Headquarters on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. Members of The Paterson Police Department arrested Rashon Johnson on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 in the area Mill and Market Streets in Paterson, New Jersey.
If convicted both Johnson and Robinson will face lengthy State Prison sentences, with mandatory minimums pursuant to The Graves Act Sentencing Requirement.
The State has filed a motion for Pretrial Detention for Nascir Robinson that will be heard before a Superior Court Judge. The State intents to file a motion for Pretrial Detention for Rashon Johnson that will be heard before a Superior Court Judge.
