Arrests Made In Connection To July 5, 2021 Double Homicide

TWO PATERSON BROTHERS ARRESTED AND CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO MONDAY JULY 5, 2021 DOUBLE HOMICIDE IN PATERSON

     " Jose Edgar Martinez-Garcia & Francisco Martinez-Garcia Have Been Arrested & Charged With Murder And Weapons Offenses In Connection To Double Homicide On Totowa Avenue."

PATERSON, NJ.- On Tuesday, July 20, 2021 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announced that based upon an investigation conducted by The Paterson Police Department in conjunction with The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office and The United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Jose Edgar Martinez-Garcia, 33, and Francisco Martinez-Garcia, 27, both men form Paterson, New Jersey, were arrested in connection to the Double Homicide which occurred on Monday, July 5, 2021, at 455 Totowa Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey.



     The Martinez-Garcia brothers have been Charged with Two Counts of First Degree Murder; First Degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder; First Degree Attempted Murder; Third Degree Possession of a Knife for an Unlawful Purpose; and Third Degree Unlawful Possession of a Knife.


     On Monday, July 5, 2021, Members of The Paterson Police Department responded to 455 Totowa Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey in response of a stabbing. Upon arrival Police Officers located Jamie Hernandez, 44, and Johnny Jimenez, 36, both men from Paterson, New Jersey, lying in the parking lot of 430 Totowa Avenue with apparent stab wounds.


     Attempts by The Paterson Fire Department Emergency Medical Personnel to revive both victims proved unsuccessful, Mr. Hernandez and Mr. Jimenez succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene.


     As a result of the investigation, warrants were issued for the arrest of the brothers. Attempts were made to capture the brothers, but they fled the jurisdiction. Further investigation led to the Martinez-Garcia brothers being located in the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina area. On Friday, July 9, 2021, The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force located the brothers in South Carolina, where the were taken into custody without incident.


     Both defendants waived extradition and a currently in custody at The Passaic County Jail in Paterson, New Jersey and Prosecutor's have filed a motion in State Superior Court to both brothers detained pending the outcome of the case against them.
