NEWTON, NJ.- On Monday, July 5, 2021, New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal announced that his Office is conducting an investigation of a Police-Involved shooting that occurred the evening of July 4, 2021 in Newton, New Jersey. A Male civilian sustained fatal injuries in the shooting. The man's identity is not being released at this time.
According to the preliminary investigation, Three Uniformed Officers of The Newton Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call at a residence on Clive Place in Newton, New Jersey.
During an encounter outside the residence, Two Newton Police Officers fired their weapons fatally wounding the man. Police Officers rendered first aid which was unsuccessful. The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Andover Police Department along with New Jersey State Police responded to the scene after the shooting. A Semi-Automatic Handgun was recovered at the scene.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No other information was available at the time of reporting.
