29-Year-Old Union City Man Arrested In Connection With Arson

 A UNION CITY MAN ARRESTED AND CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO SYNAGOGUE AND YESHIVA FIRE IN UNION CITY, NEW JERSEY

     "Oswaldo Domingo Xil-Argueta Arrested & Detained In Connection With Saturday July 3, 2021 Fire At A Jewish Synagogue & Mesivta-Yeshiva In Union City, New Jersey."

UNION CITY, NJ.- On Tuesday, July 13, 2021 Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced that The Union City Police Department and The Hudson County Regional Task Force arrested a 29-Year-Old Union City, New Jersey man and charged him with First degree Aggravated Arson in connection with a fire set at a Jewish Synagogue and The Mesivta-Yeshiva located on 34th. Street in Union City, New Jersey.



     On Saturday July 3, 2021 at approximately 3:00 a.m., Members of The Union City Police Department and The North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue responded to 318 34th Street in Union City, New Jersey on a report of an active fire.



     An investigation conducted by The Union City Police Department in conjunction with The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Regional Arson Task Force revealed that Xil-Argueta was the individual that set the fire.


     Oswaldo Domingo Xil-Argueta was charged with First Degree Aggravated Arson; Criminal Mischief, Burglary. Because the Arson was at a place of public worship, The Aggravated Arson charge was elevated to a First Degree Offense. At this point authorities have no evidence that the arson was a Bias Incident.


     Xil-Argueta was arrested at 325 34th Street in Union City, just after 4:00 a.m. on Monday, July 5, 2021 by Members of The Union City Police Department and The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Regional Arson Task Force. Xil-Argueta was processed and remanded to The Hudson County Correctional Facility pending a First Appearance and a Pretrial Detention Hearing.


     On Tuesday, July 13, 2021, during a hearing in State Superior Court before The Honorable Judge Paul DePascale, The States Motion for Pretrial Detention was Granted, and the defendant will remain incarcerated pending the adjudication of the charges.


    Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez acknowledges the Law Enforcement Agencies that participated in the investigation and the arrest.


" The Rules Of The Court Require Us To Include A Statement, Which States: The Charges Are Merely Accusations And The Defendant And Or Defendants Are Presumed Innocent Unless And Until Proven Guilty Beyond Reasonable Doubt."
