WASHINGTON- Controversial Squad Member Rep. Ilhan Omar, (D-Minn.), retweeted a video produced by an Anti- Israel Organization that has previously been investigated by The Federal Bureau of Investigations for potential terrorist ties.
On Tuesday, just one day after she posted a now infamous tweet comparing The United States and Israel to terror groups to the likes of Hamas and The Taliban, House Rep. Omar retweeted a post which included a video produced by The International Solidarity Movement.
The video shared by Omar portrayed a Palestinian child being carried away by Israeli Police Forces as an explosion can be heard in the background.
Back in 2010, The International Solidarity Movement, (ISM) was deemed by The Anti-Defamation League, (ADL), as one of the top ranked Anti-Israel Organizations in the country. The Federal Bureau of Investigations, (FBI) investigated the ISM for potential ties to terrorists, but FBI documents reported in 2020, by The Intercept did not detail any charges filed against the group.
ISM was also criticized by the ADL in 2014 for the group's response to the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenages, with the ISM stating the teenagers were missing and dismissing Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's attribution to the murders to the Internationally recognized Terrorist Organization Hamas.
While ISM promotes itself as a non-violent organization, its founders have endorsed Palestinians' rights to armed struggle, in the past.
David Bernstein, a professor at George Mason University School of Law blasted ISM as a Pro-Terrorist Organization, in a 2015 opinion piece in The Washington Post, he noted that the group had expressed support for a violent terrorist, Samer Issawi.
Bernstein also pointed out that ISM has called Issawi a freedom fighter on its twitter account and suggested that he is a Political Prisoner in a Israeli Prison.
Issawi was released from prison in 2011, but again was quically re-arrested after breaking the terms of his release agreement. While in prison, Issawi began a hunger strike that captured International Attention.
Bernstein further noted, but in any event, ISM's always been a propaganda machine for the Palestinians, not an objective human rights source.
Omar's shared the video of the Palestinian child the day after tweeting that The United States and Israel, like Hamas and The Taliban, had committed " Unthinkable Atrocities."
Omar's tweet was met with sharp criticism from both sides of The House, with Democratic leadership issuing their own condemnation of Omar's words after the Congresswoman posted a release clarifying her tweet.
When asked if House Democrats would be pursuing further action against Omar during a Press Conference , House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, (D-Calif.), did not even let the reporter finish his question before answering, " I think that she clarified her remarks and we accept that, and she has a point that she wanted to make and she has the right to make that point, " Pelosi said. " There's some unease about how it was interrupted."
In February 2021, The House of Representatives voted 230-199 to strip Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of her Committee Assignments, following uproar over her past comments , The Georgia Freshman had come under fire for her history of racism, anti-semitism, and baseless conspiracy theories, with eleven Republican Lawmakers joining Democrats in the vote.
Even after the vote striping Taylor Greene of her Committee Assignments, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi continued to call for Taylor Greene to resign or be removed from Congress, noting that her continued pattern jeopardized America.
Today, as House Speaker Pelosi's unwillingness to take action with Omar's recent comments, gives further insight that there is now one standard for Democrats and another for Republicans.
Monday's tweet by Omar depicts a continued dislike for America, and a pattern of Anti-American semitism, she has continued to voice.
If Omar has a point that she wanted to make and she has the right to make that point, as House Speaker Pelosi stated, why then did Taylor Greene not have the right to make her point.
