WASHINGTON, DC.- The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has announced the arrests of two suspects in connection with a shooting that left two individuals injured in Southeast Washington, D.C., earlier last month.

     According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting occurred on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at approximately 6:56 p.m., in the 1600 block of T Street Southeast, D.C.

     Investigators said the incident began as a physical altercation involving multiple individuals. During the confrontation, one of the suspects allegedly retrieved a firearm from another suspect before opening fire on two victims.

     Police said both victims were struck by gunfire during the altercation. Following the shooting, the suspects fled the area before responding officers arrived on the scene.

     Members of D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded and transported both victims to local hospitals for treatment. Authorities reported that the victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Video Footage Helps Investigators Identify Suspects;

     Shortly after the shooting, MPD officers were able to obtain and review video footage capturing the incident. Investigators credited the footage with helping officers quickly identify one of the individuals involved.

     As a result of the investigation, officers identified Jeremiah Crowder, 18, of Southeast Washington, D.C., as a suspect in the case.

     Crowder was subsequently arrested and charged with:

     • Carrying a Pistol Without a License
     • Tampering with Evidence

     Police have not publicly disclosed additional details regarding the evidence-tampering allegation.

Fugitive Task Force Arrests Second Suspect;

     The investigation continued following Crowder's arrest, leading Detectives to seek an arrest warrant for a second suspect.

     On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force executed a District of Columbia Superior Court arrest warrant and took Kavel Kitchens, 25, of Northeast Washington, D.C., into custody.

     Kitchens was charged with:

     • Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun)
     • Carrying a Pistol Without a License

     Authorities have not released information indicating whether additional arrests are expected.

Ongoing Investigation;

     The Metropolitan Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

     The incident highlights the role that surveillance and video evidence increasingly play in violent-crime investigations, allowing detectives to identify suspects and develop probable cause more rapidly following criminal incidents.

     Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact the Metropolitan Police Department.
