WEST PALM BEACH, FL.- The FBI is currently investigating what they have called an apparent assassination attempt on Former President Trump at the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida, that occurred just after 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said that the U.S. Secret Service agents fired at a man pointing an AK-47 rifle with a scope through a chainlink fence. Bradshaw further said the gunman also had two backpacks hanging on the fence and a GoPro camera. The gunman was about 300 to 500 yards away from Trump.

An advance team of agents two holes away from the Former President spotted the gun and then fired four to six shots at the suspect, who has been identified by a law enforcement official as Ryan Wesley Routh. Routh then ran from the bushes, jumped into a black Nissan SUV, and fled.

A nearby witness saw Routh running out of the bushes and quickly took a picture of the vehicle and license plate, which led Routh to be apprehended in nearby Martin County, Florida.

Sunday's incident is the second time in two months that the Former President has had an attempt made on his life. Trump was shot in the ear on July 13th during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, that tragically killed a man and left two others critically injured.

Shortly after the incident, Trump was safely returned to his home at Mar-a-Lago, a four-and-a-half-mile ride from the golf course.

This is a developing story; updates will be provided as provided by law enforcement officials.
